New Roof Installation Nutley NJ
New Roof being installed in Nutley NJ. The roof has several different pitches to work on. The top of the roof is a flat that could be an issue with ice damming and water back up if a regular shingle is installed. To eliminate any leaking CKG Contractors Inc. installed a flat roof made by Certainteed, We removed all layers of shingles. Once that was completed a thorough inspection of the roof deck was done to ensure all old roofing nails have been removed and the roof deck is in good shape. Any deteriorated wood gets replaced before the new roof is installed.
A self adhered base sheet was installed as the first layer of protection and allows a perfect foundation for the Certainteed Flintlastic cap sheet installation. By utilizing the base and the cap sheet Certainteed extends the warranty of the roll roof system for an additional 5 years.
Certainteed Landmark shingles are installed on all the remaining roof surfaces. Before any shingles are installed the same process as above is followed. Remove existing layers and inspect for left over nails and wood condition. Before the shingles are installed on our Nutley Roof proper underlayment is installed. Ice and water shield is installed to code minimum 24″ beyond the interior wall this will protect your home from ice damming. We are also removing siding so we can install ice and water shield up all walls. If this step is not completed there is a good chance you will experience ice damming where the roof meets the house . Once Gutter freeze with ice the snow from your roof melts based on heat loss and attic being warmer than the outside air. If this melting snow hits the ice dam and gets under your wall flashing without ice and water shield installed up the wall, it’s getting inside. Just Something to think about. Back to our roof. Next Synthetic underlayment is installed on the remaining roof surface. Roof Ventilation is also extremely important. The roof we are installing in Nutley had no vents to allow air into the attic. We extended the soffits and installed a ridge vent. This combination will allow the attic space to stay cold in the winter and warmer in the summer. The goal is to have an attic that is the same temperature as the outside air. This will also help eliminate ice dams and condensation.
